How many users does a Telegram bot have? How to check it

October 23, 20263 min readMGRAM team

Before buying an ad in a bot you want to know one thing: how many real people are there. Telegram shows no public counter for regular bots, and «users in the database» is not the same as «people the bot can message». Here is where to find the numbers and what a real audience looks like.

In short. A regular Telegram bot has no public user counter: only the owner sees the number, and it usually includes everyone who ever pressed «Start». What matters for ads is the live audience — people the bot can deliver a message to right now. The MGRAM bot catalog (Russian interface, mgram.biz/catalog) shows for every listed bot its live audience, new users in 7 and 30 days, blocks in the last week, countries, languages and Premium share.

Why «users» is not the audience

A bot's own stats usually count everyone who ever started it. Some of them have blocked the bot, deleted their account or have not opened it for years — Telegram doesn't give bots the full history of old chats. A database of 300,000 may mean 100,000 people a message will actually reach. On MGRAM, broadcasts are paid only for delivered messages.

Your own bot

  1. Your stats — in the builder or your database: that's the whole base.
  2. Bots with a Mini App may show monthly users in the profile, but only when the audience is large enough.
  3. After connecting to MGRAM — «Quality audience» in the bot card: live users who receive ads. See Bot audience.

Signs of a dead or fake base

  • A big base with a small live audience.
  • Users arriving in one spike, then nothing.
  • More blocks than new users.
  • Geography that doesn't match the bot's language.

Ordering an ad in one bot

On the bot's page, press «Order a broadcast in this bot», choose your post, a slot the owner opened and the number of messages. The owner sets the price — 0.03–0.13 ₽ per message. See Broadcast in a specific bot.

FAQ

How can I see how many users a Telegram bot has?

Your own — in the bot's stats or in the MGRAM bot card («Quality audience»). Someone else's — in the MGRAM bot catalog, which shows live audience, growth and geography. Bots with a Mini App sometimes show monthly users in the profile.

Why is the audience on MGRAM smaller than in my bot's stats?

MGRAM counts only people the bot can deliver a message to, without users who blocked it or deleted their accounts.

Do I pay for users who blocked the bot?

No, broadcasts are paid only for delivered messages.
